Bring on the rain…I mean, MUD

With all the fires out this way, the overcast skies and torrential downpour of rain that came yesterday, was more than welcome.  Not only is rain a super awesome fire retardant (among other essential uses), when rain mixes with dirt, it makes a wet and often sticky substance known as mud.

I love mud! When most people avoid it– fearing that it will get their pearly white shoes dirty– I run straight to it. I’ve often thought that if I were given the choice of what species I would be, my second choice would be pig (first being human, of course…just had to clarify)…Pigs get to lay around all day, basking in the sun, making all sorts of silly noises. They also get to eat slop–whatever that is—but anything called “slop” has my vote for delicious; Most pigs are pink, which is one of my favorite colors. But the best thing, of course, would be the fact that you could roll around in the mud all day, and that it would be completely acceptable.

Doesn’t he just look like he’s livin’ it up?!

So, bright and early this morning–before the sun turned my mud back into dirt–I headed to the mountain. There’s something about splashing in a mud puddle that makes you feel all childlike again. And when you transition from wet mud, to dirt and pebbles, it all mixes together, sticking together in one sweet heap of brown, chunky awesomeness. I like to think of this as resistance—much like those ankle weights you wore in the 80’s, only waayyy cooler.

I had a purple pair just like this when I was little–WITH the wrist weights! Why did I EVER get rid of those?!

One of my favorite parts about a good mud run, is passing people on the way back home, on the street. Depending on how muddy it was, I get all sorts of looks. If I am covered in mud, I get the “where have YOU been” look. If it was only slightly muddy, and I only managed to splash my backside, I get the smile and wave, and once I’ve passed them, I hear snickers with people saying things like “I wonder if she knows she has mud on her butt!” THAT’S my favorite. Kinda’ like the running mullet–all business in front, party in the back!

I thought Joe Dirt’s mullet was more than fitting for this post….do you think if we got it wet, it would turn to mud?…Joe “Dirt”–get it? yeah.

Even though this guy is riding a bike (heaven forbid), his backside says it all!

Now that I have you all excited about running in the mud, let me introduce you to The Dirty Dash. This is an event where you all get the chance to be a pig for a day! How cool is that?! Here is a video about it, just in case you were in the mood for a dirty video.

What’s even better, is that I have my first ever FREE giveaway! Matt Ward, one of the founders of this awesome race, allowed me one free entry to The Dirty Dash in Utah on September 22nd, to give away on my blog.

SOOOOO, if you would like to be entered to win this entry, all you need to do, is post a comment to this post, or if you are a “friend” of mine on fb, shoot me a message.

The contest will end this Friday, July 13th, at 6:00 pm MST

The winner will be randomly selected

I look forward to hearing from you!

The only thing better than running in the mud is running barefoot in the mud! I’m not sure I could do that in a race though…
